The COM interface refers to the Component Object Mode interface, which is a standard interface primarily defined by Microsoft and has now served as a common communication interface for a wide variety of industrial equipment. Data transfer between computers or between computers and terminals may be done in two ways: serially and parallelly. In contrast to a parallel connection, a serial interface transmits data and control information bit by bit. Although the speed will be slower, the transmission distance is longer than the parallel port, so if you want to communicate over a long distance, you should use the serial port. Less lines, lower costs, and the ability to avoid many lines’ inconsistent features during long-distance transmission are among benefits of serial communication. despite the slower speed, the transmission distance is greater than the parallel port. In order to facilitate the connection of various devices for communication, serial communication requires that both communication parties adopt a common interface like RS232 or 485. The RS-485 serial bus standard is extensively utilized when a communication distance of tens to thousands of meters is required.
The industrial fieldbus gateway mainly includes the main control system (controller, memory), power supply module, wireless communication module, Ethernet communication module, GPRS communication module, serial RS485 module, and human-machine interface module, etc. The main control system can be divided into three parts: core board, carrier board and external communication modules. The main controller and memory are on the core board. The core board and external communication module are plugged into the carrier board, which has expanded circuitry for the power supply circuit, debugging interface, RS 485 communication module, man-machine interface, and other circuits.
Gateway software includes: data acquisition, data storage, data display (for testing) and remote data transmission. The data acquisition function is responsible for obtaining the data transmitted from the serial port. When a data packet is received, a signal is generated. The signal processing function then calls the protocol conversion program to evaluate the data in accordance with the Modbus specification and to and analyze the node number, sensor analog value, switch value and other information in the original data. The entire gateway employs an event notification and distribution system to handle different protocols, and it makes use of multi-threading technology to process the data processing and data storing portions of the program in distinct threads to increase program performance. Real-time data storage may be efficiently implemented by transferring the embedded database system to Linux.
